Who better to offer some sage advice to first home buyers, than those who’ve just gone through the process?
Georgia White and partner Nathan Byrnes have just moved into their very first home, which also happens to be one of the first at Everleigh, our masterplanned community in the heart of Greenbank.
After a smooth sales process and watching her dream home come to life, Georgia has this advice for fellow first home buyers.
FINALISE YOUR FINANCE
Organising finance is the first and biggest hurdle to owning your own home. Georgia says applying for the First Home Owner’s Grant really helped in their journey to home ownership.
“Without it, we would still be a couple of months away from being able to build,” says Georgia.
“It’s been nice that the Grant has put us in a position to be where we are, just that little bit earlier.”
GO WITH YOUR GUT
Researching before purchasing any real estate is a must-do. But Georgia points out that sometimes listening to your instincts is just as important.
“It just felt like everything fit,” says Georgia of their first impression of Everleigh.
“This was the first place we looked at, and we didn’t really have to look anywhere else, we found what we needed - a good-sized block, an affordable block and people that could help us.”
BE CONFIDENT
Georgia says first home buyers should start their journey with confidence, and surround themselves with the right kind of people.
“Make sure that you feel like the people that are helping you have your best interests at heart, and aren’t just trying to push you into something," she says.
“It’s a big decision to build your first house. A lot goes into it, you want to be happy with what you’re getting and confident everyone knows what they’re talking about.”
ASK THE EXPERTS
Don’t be afraid to ask questions, do a bit of digging and ask for help. Georgia says the Everleigh Sales team proved invaluable.
“They’ve been really helpful, which gave us a lot of confidence,” she says.
“As a first home buyer you can feel a bit lost, a bit confused, so it helps to have someone that can answer every question that you’ve got.
“That is how it feels with Mirvac - they haven’t been pushy, they haven’t made us feel like we had to make a decision.
“They just made us feel like they were there when the time was right to make one.”
HAVE FAITH
“We had thought about building our first home for about 12 months, but we just felt the time wasn’t right,” says Georgia, who added her and Nathan did have some reservations about taking the dive into home ownership.
“When we first started speaking with our builder, they showed us that we did have what we needed.
“It was nice to feel that people saw that we were ready to do it, and gave us that confidence to take a step forward.”
GET EXCITED
Georgia and Nathan’s new four bedroom, two bathroom home features an alfresco dining area, the couple are excited by the idea of entertaining family and friends.
“We’re excited to have a bigger house, we each have a big family so it’s great to be able to invite them around for dinners and get-togethers,” says Georgia.
“But we’re most excited at being a part of Everleigh, because we think the community is going to thrive.
“I can’t wait to meet everyone!”
