Building your first home is a huge milestone worth celebrating. But when your ‘sold’ sticker turns into a surprise wedding proposal – like it did for Michael Willoughby and Teagan Allen — it truly becomes a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
“We decided three years ago we wanted to buy a home where we could put down roots and we came close to buying a few times, but it always felt like something was missing,” says Teagan.
The pair were looking at real estate in the area when they passed Everleigh’s impressive entry statement and decided to further explore the masterplanned community in Greenbank.
“We drove into Everleigh and it was love at first sight. The estate is beautiful with its parks and greenery, it’s in a great location and, most importantly, it feels like home,” says Michael.
“It also has a great community feel. The primary school being built on-site means it is an amazing place for a new home — and to create a family."
It was after purchasing their lot in Everleigh that Michael had his big idea of how to propose to his girlfriend of five years.
“Teagan had always wanted a surprise proposal, so when I had the idea to propose by making a ‘will you marry me’ sold sign for our lot and to disguise the moment as taking marketing photos, I started planning right away,” says Michael.
“I reached out to Teagan’s sister, who is a graphic designer, to create the sign and asked Chris from the Everleigh sales centre to send an email inviting us to take photos for the website.”
When the day finally arrived, Michael says he was so nervous he couldn’t eat. As for Teagan, she had no clue what was coming her way.
"I had no idea he was going to propose that day. He’d looked sick in the car ride over and I’d even suggested we go back home,” says Teagan.
When the pair arrived at their lot, they were greeted by Everleigh sales consultants Chris and Monique who were in on the big surprise.
"As the sales team started to record, we rolled out what I thought was a sold sign, but because Michael was standing so close I was too distracted to read it, instead telling him to move over for the photo under my breath," Teagan jokes.
"The next part happened so fast. He pulled out a ring and I finally read the sign which didn’t say ‘sold’, but ‘will you marry me?’”
"I was in such shock. It wasn’t until he took out the ring and it was on my finger that it sunk in. It was perfect."
The pair are now busy planning for their future home, which is expected to be completed early next year. Their wedding is booked for just a few months after they move to Everleigh — making their love story a classic happily Everleigh after.
