DOWNSIZERS UPGRADE LIFESTYLE AT EVERLEIGH
It’s a change for the better for John and Cheryl McLuckie, who are among the many retirees moving to Everleigh to be close to family and enjoy the amenities and lifestyle on offer in the growing community.
The pair, in their seventies, first heard about Everleigh after their son Matthew, his wife Alisha and their grandchildren moved to the community a few years prior. It was an experience that would change their lives and exceed their expectations.
“Originally, we relocated from our home in Illawarra, New South Wales, to a seaside apartment on the Gold Coast, but it wasn’t the right fit for us,” says Cheryl.
“While Everleigh wasn’t what we initially looked for, it was exactly what we needed. We loved the open green spaces, sense of community, and its peaceful and safe nature.
“When Alisha fell pregnant with twins, we also wanted to be closer to lend a helping hand with our four grandchildren.
“We moved into our two-storey home at Everleigh at the beginning of the year (2022) and couldn’t be happier. “We are right across from Leaf Park, where our grandchildren like to play and community events are regularly held, and are only a five-minute walk from our son’s place.”
John says one of the best aspects of living at Everleigh is the close relationship he and his wife have built with their grandchildren.
“My wife loves spending time with the twins and I love picking up the older two from Everleigh Primary School, which is within the community and only a ten-minute walk from home.
“Even though I’m 75-years-old and look like a veteran doing it, I love playing AFL with my grandson in the park. I can only imagine the amount of time we will be spending outside once the new Everleigh AFL fields are complete.”
Cheryl, who is a green thumb, also spends her time helping in the community herb garden and enjoying a chat with neighbours at the weekly coffee group for seniors hosted by Everleigh’s community engagement team, Enriching Communities Greenbank.
The pair are excited about the new chapter of their lives at Everleigh, with much still to look forward to.
“This year’s Christmas should be a big one with the whole family. My son recently had a pool installed, and I’m hoping to get a barbeque soon so I can cook up roasts and briskets,” says John.
“The only challenge we have now is managing the amount of extended family ringing us up to come and stay with us at Everleigh,” he jokes.
